Chiang Mai Zoo

The Chiang Mai zoo located in the Chiang Mai district of Thailand is featured as one of the top places of tourism in the country. Located on 531 Rai of forestland at the foothill of Doi Suthep Mountain, the site is bordered by a hilly land. This hilly land features a range of wild plants and flowers beautifying the landscape of waterfall, streams, and valleys. Other major highlights of Chiang Mai Zoo are the Freshwater Aquarium consisting of around 60 species of tropical freshwater fishes including Siamese Giant Carp, Ture Eel, and Mekhong Catfish and Striped Catfish. The wildlife exhibit including the Elephant family, Indian rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, Fea's barking deer, Zebra, and Giraffe along with rare bird species like, Malayan tapir, Humboltd penguin, Sarus crane, and Serrow attracts a significant number of tourists to this place of tourist interest.

The Open zoo area that is home to Hog deer, Brow Anther deer, spotted deer, and barking deer along with Peacock and Alpaca is also a major attraction for the tourists. Another interesting attraction of this place of tourist interest is the Twilight Zoo that remains open from 6: 30 pm – 9:00 pm houses around 30 kinds of nocturnal animal species. You can opt for a tour during the night in a comfortable tram. These tours come with a guide. The Children’s zoo within the premises of the site is also another top attraction for the tourist. This section features small and large animal exhibit, fish exhibit, rabbit exhibit, adventure sector, exhibit hall, and a performing stage. This place of tourism also features other attractions like, a walk through the aviary, exhibition of cape Fur Seal, and Gibbson Island. It also features a camping area including natural trail, adventure station, and a waterfall.

Reaching Chiang Mai Zoo

You can reach this popular attraction in Thailand via a tuk-tuk. You can also take Songtaews going to Doi Suthep to rach the zoo located at the Huay Kaew Road in Chiang Mai. Bus number 3 also features a stop at this site of tourist interest.

Opening Hours

The Chiang Mai zoo remains open everyday from 8.00 am - 5.00 pm. Show times and exhibition hours varies throughout the week.

    Monday-Friday - 10.30 a.m and 2.00 p.m (2 times a day)
    Saturday-Sunday - 10.30 a.m 1.30 pm, 3.00 p.m (3 times a day)

  • Animals Show:
    Monday-Friday - 11.30 a.m and 3.00 p.m (2 times a day)
    Saturday-Sunday -11.30 a.m, 2.30 pm, 3.30 p.m (3 times a day)

    The best time of visiting the pandas is 9:00 a.m, when the enclosure remains open for Ratesding them.
