Features of Municipal Rose Garden
The Municipal Rose Garden was an accredited venue in December 2008 after the probation on the site was lifted. Much credit goes to the efforts and initiative of the “Friends of the San Jose Rose Garden” whose mission was to gift back the garden their lost glory. It was in 2009 when it was reopened after the restoration project was over. The garden now consists of 4,000 rose plants of around 185 varieties. But, the major achievement of the Municipal Rose Garden has been the official declaration renaming it as the All-America Rose Selections Test Garden. The move was made during May 2009. Since then, the garden became popular with the name the Rose Test Garden, San Jose.
San Jose’s Municipal Rose Garden also houses unique varieties of rose collections that are mostly hybrid. The testing of roses is determined by the quality of shrub, the number of high-centered bloom per branch. The best time for bloom or the flowering season is from the months of April to November. This is also the time when the city of San Jose experiences mild precipitation assisting the boom. The month of April- May has a heavy traffic of visitors in the garden. The garden of roses in San Jose was voted the “Best Rose Garden in America”.
There is no entry fee involved and the public park is open to the people without any charges.
