Annecy is a city which is situated in the Rhône-Alpes region in the east central part of France, on the shores of Lake Annecy, at a distance of 22 miles to the south of Geneva. Annecy makes an interesting tourist destination for people while they are on short excursions from Chamonix. Annecy also gained a prominence as it plays the host to the Annecy International Animated Film Festival since 1960. Another interesting destination that can be visited while on a trip from Chamonix is the city of Albertville which is located in the southeast region of France in the French Alps. Albertville stands on the Arly River on an altitude that varies between 345 and 2,037m. Albertville was founded in the 19th C by King Charles-Albert of Savoy. Albertville also makes a perfect gateway to explore the Trois Vallées district which can also be visited on excursions from Chamonix. The area provides ample opportunity for skiing and is also an interesting place to practice some other winter sports with excellent facilities that are provided on requests. The town gained prominence by hosting the Winter Olympics in the year 1992.

While in Albertville tourists must take out their time to visit Conflans, which is the oldest part of Albertville and lies on a spur of hill above the town. It is a relic of the city and is a prominent mark with Gothic town gates, massive walls, old houses and Baroque church. One can also enjoy a ride on the Col de la Tamié (cableway) which gives the tourists the pleasure to experience the breathtaking views of the surrounding.
